I'd honesty go for the cockpit, offers you more immersion and you'll have a place to seat pedals without them moving about as you fumble the controls .

It depends on how comfortable you feel with the R3 on your desk. If you’re fine with it, I would personally leave it. But if you plan to even upgrade the base or pedals, a rig is worth getting
