I’m looking to get into a load cell brake pedal but am wondering if you have any tips regarding how to set it up? Is it only down to personal preference or are some settings better than others?
A load cell brake is partly personal preference, but there are some objectively better setup principles that make it easier to drive consistently. The most important thing is pedal stiffness and travel: you want a firm pedal with relatively short travel so braking is controlled by pressure, not movement, similar to a real race car. Start by setting the maximum brake force so you can reach 100 percent braking with a hard but repeatable push, not full body weight, then fine tune in game so threshold braking happens before lockup or ABS intervention. Position matters a lot too, make sure the pedal face is close enough that you can apply force with your leg rather than your ankle, and lock your seat and rig down so nothing flexes. Once that baseline is set, small adjustments to elastomers, springs, and brake curves are worth experimenting with, but consistency and stability matter far more than chasing a “perfect” feel.
