Fanatec CSL DD QR2 5Nm WheelBase for Xbox and PCvsMOZA R9 V3 Direct Drive Wheel Base

The Bottom Line

Choosing between these two direct drive bases comes down to a choice between raw motor power and ecosystem versatility. While MOZA offers significantly more torque out of the box, Fanatec provides a highly modular platform with more mounting flexibility.

Watch out

The Fanatec CSL DD suffers from a known design flaw where the steering shaft can slip out of the housing under heavy loads, and users frequently report firmware updates getting stuck. Meanwhile, the MOZA R9 V3 can run very hot, sometimes leading to force feedback fading during long, intense sessions unless you use aggressive temperature settings or external cooling.

Note

While Fanatec's QR2 system successfully eliminates the play and creaking of older designs, MOZA's Pit House software is widely praised for its deep customization and user-friendly interface. If you find the Fanatec's standard 5 Nm torque lacking, you can easily upgrade your experience within the ecosystem using the official Fanatec Boost Kit to unlock 8 Nm of torque.

Why choose Fanatec CSL DD QR2 5Nm

7.8
Overall Rating
  • Versatile Mounting Options: It supports both bottom and side mounting, giving you more flexibility when securing it to your rig.

Why choose MOZA R9 V3

8.5
Overall Rating
  • Superior Peak Torque: With 9 Nm of torque compared to Fanatec's 5 Nm, it delivers a much stronger and more detailed force feedback experience right out of the box.
  • Greater Rotation and Lighter Weight: It offers a wider 2700-degree maximum rotation and a slightly lighter 5 kg chassis.

The Verdict

If you want maximum power and detailed feedback without needing immediate upgrades, the MOZA R9 V3 is the superior performer despite its thermal quirks. However, the Fanatec CSL DD remains a viable entry point if you value side-mounting options and plan to utilize the official first-party upgrade path later.
