MOZA R12 V2 Direct Drive Wheel BasevsThrustmaster T818 Base

The Bottom Line

The MOZA R12 V2 Direct Drive Wheel Base and the Thrustmaster T818 Base represent two very different paths to mid-range direct drive performance. While MOZA delivers a refined, high-torque package at a highly competitive price, Thrustmaster struggles to justify its premium cost due to questionable design choices.

Watch out

The Thrustmaster T818 Base features a loose default USB-C connection that frequently disconnects mid-race, alongside a plastic quick release prone to flexing and creaking. Meanwhile, the MOZA R12 V2 can run very hot to the touch, reaching up to 60-66°C during intense sessions, and occasionally suffers from USB drops unless plugged into rear motherboard ports.

Note

Mounting the T818 can be a headache because its non-standard bottom hole pattern requires a separate adapter or custom drilling for most cockpits. Both bases allow you to upgrade your steering wheels and accessories within their respective first-party ecosystems.

The Clear Winner: MOZA R12 V2 Direct Drive Wheel Base

The MOZA R12 V2 is the undisputed champion here, offering a superior 12 Nm of peak torque and a massive 2700° of maximum rotation. It completely outclasses the T818 in build quality with its robust D1-Spec quick release and versatile front and bottom mounting options, all while costing significantly less at $429.00.

Community feedback highlights the V2's 21-bit encoder and NexGen algorithm for delivering incredibly smooth, detailed force feedback that hits the mid-range sweet spot. While the T818's unfiltered 10 Nm feedback is highly responsive, its physical flaws like the flexing composite quick release and loose USB-C cable make it impossible to recommend over the polished MOZA package.
