Legendary Datsun 240Z will arrive in Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.7

Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.7 continues to take shape as Kunos Simulazioni has confirmed another vehicle joining the simulator’s growing roster. Following a recent teaser shared through the studio’s official social media channels, the legendary Datsun 240Z has been revealed as confirmed car coming with the upcoming update.

The addition introduces one of the most influential Japanese sports cars ever produced, bringing a lightweight rear-wheel-drive machine that helped define affordable performance during the 1970s. While modern supercars often dominate headlines, the arrival of the 240Z signals Kunos’ intention to continue expanding EVO’s vehicle lineup with historically significant and engaging driver’s cars.

A Sports Car That Changed the Industry

Originally launched in 1969, the Datsun 240Z quickly established itself as a benchmark for affordable sports cars. Combining attractive styling, strong reliability, and competitive performance, it became a global success and helped elevate the reputation of Japanese manufacturers in markets traditionally dominated by European brands.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4-litre inline-six engine producing approximately 151 horsepower, the 240Z may not seem particularly powerful by modern standards. However, its lightweight construction of just over 1,000 kilograms allowed it to deliver impressive performance and responsive handling.

The car features rear-wheel drive and fully independent suspension, characteristics that contributed to its balanced driving dynamics and enduring popularity among enthusiasts.

A Different Driving Experience for Assetto Corsa EVO

The Datsun 240Z is expected to offer a pure driving experience. Without modern driver aids or electronic assistance systems, the vehicle relies entirely on mechanical grip, weight transfer, and driver input.

Its relatively low power output combined with a lightweight chassis should make it approachable for newcomers while still rewarding experienced drivers who can maximize momentum. Fans of classic sports cars can likely expect a vehicle that encourages smooth steering inputs, careful throttle application, and traditional heel-and-toe downshifting techniques.

The Origins of the Nissan Z Legacy

While known internationally as the Datsun 240Z, the model was sold in Japan under the Fairlady Z nameplate. The car marked the beginning of Nissan’s iconic Z-car lineage, which continues to this day through modern generations such as the Nissan Z.

The 240Z’s influence extends far beyond the automotive industry. Its distinctive long-hood, short-deck design became a symbol of Japanese performance culture and inspired countless drivers over the decades.

The model also gained legendary status through its appearance in Japanese pop culture, most notably as the infamous “Devil Z” in the popular manga and anime series Wangan Midnight.

Expanding EVO’s Automotive Diversity

The confirmation of the Datsun 240Z provides further insight into the direction of Assetto Corsa EVO’s vehicle roster. Rather than focusing exclusively on modern performance machinery, Kunos Simulazioni appears committed to representing a broad spectrum of automotive history.

For sim racers, this means access to vehicles that offer fundamentally different driving characteristics and challenges. The Datsun 240Z stands as one of the most celebrated sports cars of its generation, and its arrival in Update 0.7 is likely to be welcomed.
