Massive Assetto Corsa Rally Update 0.5 Launched: Multiplayer and Major Physics Overhaul

Assetto Corsa Rally has received one of its biggest Early Access updates yet. Update 0.5 introduces the first phase of online multiplayer, adds an entirely new rally location in Greece, brings a massive physics overhaul, and delivers a wide range of gameplay, audio, visual, and environmental improvements.

Online Multiplayer Begins

The biggest addition in Update 0.5 is the arrival of Online Multiplayer Phase One.

Players can now browse active lobbies through the server browser, create custom rooms, or join official Assetto Corsa Rally sessions. Multiplayer currently supports single-stage events with a maximum of 16 players.

Hosts can customize sessions by restricting vehicle selections to:

  • All available vehicles
  • Vehicles within a category
  • Identical vehicles for all players

Weather settings can also be freely selected when creating a lobby.

Players joining ongoing sessions are able to spectate live races and follow results while lobby hosts can modify track and weather settings between events.

Official ACR Lobbies Receive Rotating Events

Developer Supernova has also introduced persistent official ACR multiplayer lobbies.

These community-focused servers remain permanently available and automatically scale through multiple active instances to ensure open slots remain available.

The launch event schedule includes:

Week One

Rally 2 Greece Special Stages

Four Greek stages under clear weather conditions using Rally 2 cars.

Mini Tarmac Festival

Eight tarmac stages using the Mini Cooper S.

Weekend Event

Impreza S3 Wales Light Rain featuring wet Welsh stages using the Subaru Impreza S3.

Week Two

Alfa GTA Greece Stages

Four Greek stages featuring the Alfa Romeo GTA 1300 Junior.

Rally 2 Gravel Festival

Eight gravel stages using Rally 2 vehicles.

Weekend Event

Lancia Delta Col de Turini Light Snow using mild snow conditions across two full-length stages.

Additional event rotations for future weeks will be announced later.

Greece Joins the Rally Calendar

The update adds an entirely new destination with Rally Greece.

The location includes two brand-new laser-scanned Special Stages:

  • Elatia
  • Loutraki

Together they provide:

  • 12 layout variations
  • 22 kilometers of roads
  • 509 meters of elevation changes

A dedicated Rally Weekend preset has also been added specifically for the new location.

Massive Physics Improvements

Update 0.5 heavily focuses on improving vehicle handling and realism.

The tire model has been redesigned with multiple enhancements intended to create more natural vehicle behavior and improved feedback.

Major physics improvements include:

  • Updated Peak Slip Angle calculations
  • Revised load sensitivity behavior
  • Improved surface recognition
  • Dynamic camber calculations
  • Enhanced contact patch simulation
  • New bulldozing effects on soft surfaces
  • Stick-slip vibration effects
  • Dig-dependent vibrations

A global tuning pass has also been completed across all vehicles, setups, and surfaces to better align everything with the new systems.

New Dynamic Ideal Line System

Assetto Corsa Rally now introduces an upgraded ideal line system.

Instead of using a fixed-width trajectory, the line can now dynamically widen through corners, creating a larger area of optimal grip and improving realism during slides and cornering.

Visual improvements include:

  • Dynamic skid marks
  • More realistic tire tracks
  • Improved surface deformation effects

Currently this feature is exclusive to Greece but will later expand to Wales, Alsace, and Livigno.

Audio, Visual and Gameplay Improvements

The update also brings many smaller but noticeable improvements throughout the game.

Audio

  • Updated Subaru Impreza S3 engine and exhaust sound
  • Remixed Peugeot 306 engine audio
  • Helmet microphone audio option
  • Improved 3D sound spatialization
  • Better RPM smoothing

Gameplay and UI

  • Global camera layout synchronization
  • Increased default cockpit FOV
  • Various interface improvements

Visual Improvements

  • Enhanced ideal line visuals
  • Advanced dust particle systems
  • Improved lighting effects
  • High-resolution crowd models

Environment Improvements

  • Improved streaming performance
  • New Greek service park
  • Better environmental variety
  • Performance optimizations

Bug Fixes Included

The update also addresses numerous issues across the game:

  • Fixed terrain flickering
  • Corrected missing tree collision data
  • Removed duplicate environmental assets
  • Fixed floating vegetation
  • Corrected Subaru profile information
  • Resolved dynamic object reset issues
  • Fixed UI text and layout inconsistencies

With multiplayer finally arriving and major improvements across almost every area of the simulation, Update 0.5 marks one of the most significant steps forward for Assetto Corsa Rally since entering Early Access.

Final Thoughts

With multiplayer finally making its debut and extensive improvements across physics, handling, visuals, and gameplay systems, Update 0.5 represents a major milestone for Assetto Corsa Rally’s Early Access journey.

While the multiplayer component is still launching in its first phase and currently focuses on single-stage events, it lays an important foundation for future expansions. Combined with the new Greece location and the substantial tire and surface simulation overhaul, the update shows Supernova’s continued focus on realism and long-term development.

For rally fans already invested in Assetto Corsa Rally, Update 0.5 delivers far more than new content, it fundamentally changes how the game feels behind the wheel.
