Assetto Corsa EVO Free Roam Launches December 9 With 30-Player Multiplayer

Assetto Corsa EVO finally has a release date for Free Roam. The first version of the long-awaited open-world mode will arrive on December 9, 2026 as part of the V0.10 Early Access update.

Kunos also revealed considerably more about what players will actually be able to do when it launches. The first area will cover roughly 70 km² around the Nürburgring, multiplayer will support up to 30 drivers, and the map will already include traffic, Time Attacks, fuel stations, repair locations, and plenty of roads to simply explore.

The First Map Will Cover Around 70 km²

Free Roam recreates the Eifel region surrounding the Nürburgring at 1:1 scale. The initial December release will cover around 70 km², including Nürburg, Adenau, Müllenbach, nearby villages, and many of the public roads surrounding the Nordschleife.

The roads themselves are being recreated with their real-world widths, lengths, corners, junctions, bridges, and elevation changes. You will also be able to leave the asphalt in certain areas, with off-road exploration included alongside the normal road network.

This is only the beginning. Kunos eventually plans to expand the Free Roam environment to around 1,600 km² with roughly 400 km of drivable roads, so the December version represents a relatively small section of the final goal.

30-Player Multiplayer Is Coming at Launch

One of the biggest new confirmations is that multiplayer will be available from day one. Up to 30 players can share the Free Roam map inside a single server, with AI traffic remaining active while everyone explores.

Players will also be able to organize four-player sprint races. These races will temporarily close the relevant roads to normal traffic, giving you a cleaner point-to-point competition without random cars getting in the way.

Kunos also plans to let players create their own point-to-point Time Attack routes in the future. The idea is to choose your own start and finish points, creating potentially thousands of different routes that can then be shared and raced online.

There Is More to Do Than Just Drive Around

Free Roam will include Time Attack challenges with online leaderboards, alongside points of interest spread throughout the map. Fuel stations allow you to refuel, while dedicated locations can be used for tire changes and vehicle repairs.

There is also a walking mode, allowing you to leave the car and explore parts of the environment on foot. Variable AI traffic, changing weather, and a full day and night cycle should help make the roads feel considerably less static as well.

Kunos has also discussed potentially making its terrain generation technology available to modders in the future. Considering the scale of environments the system is designed to create, that could eventually become a pretty huge addition for the Assetto Corsa modding community.

We Finally Got to See It Properly in Frankfurt

Free Roam was playable publicly at SimRacing Expo Frankfurt, giving players their first opportunity to actually drive around the Eifel region before release. Kunos also used the event to confirm the December launch date, initial map size, and multiplayer player count.

That makes this the clearest picture we have had of the mode since it was originally announced. There is still a huge amount of expansion planned after V0.10, but the first release already looks substantially more developed than simply being an empty open-world test map.

Final Thoughts

Free Roam has been one of the most ambitious and talked-about parts of Assetto Corsa EVO since the game was announced, and we finally know exactly when we can try it ourselves.

A 70 km² starting area, 30-player multiplayer, AI traffic, Time Attacks, changing weather, and properly recreated public roads around the Nürburgring sounds like a pretty solid starting point. The eventual 1,600 km² target is considerably more ambitious, but for now I am mainly interested to see how alive and interesting that initial December map actually feels once thousands of players get access to it.
