Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.8 Delivers Massive VR Overhaul, Kyalami and Three New Cars

Assetto Corsa EVO has received another major Early Access update, with Release 0.8 delivering a mix of new content, expanded modding functionality and technical upgrades. While previous updates focused on establishing the foundations of the platform, Version 0.8 continues that momentum by introducing three new cars, the iconic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and a comprehensive overhaul of the virtual reality experience.

Beyond the headline additions, KUNOS Simulazioni has also expanded support for user-generated content, improved multiplayer functionality and implemented numerous rendering, gameplay and performance optimizations designed to make the overall experience smoother and more stable.

Three New Cars Expand the Vehicle Roster

Release 0.8 introduces three vehicles that offer very different driving experiences.

Leading the additions is the KTM X-Bow GT2, one of the most extreme customer racing cars currently available in Assetto Corsa EVO. Built around a lightweight carbon monocoque and powered by a turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the GT2 machine is designed for maximum performance and rewards precise, committed driving.

Joining it is the KTM X-Bow GT4, which brings the same lightweight philosophy into the increasingly popular GT4 category. While less powerful than its GT2 counterpart, it offers approachable handling characteristics that make it suitable for both newcomers and experienced drivers looking for close, competitive racing.

Completing the trio is the Volkswagen Golf 8 R. Unlike the dedicated race cars, Volkswagen’s performance hatchback introduces an all-wheel-drive road car capable of delivering impressive pace in all weather conditions. It also complements the existing Golf GTI already available in Assetto Corsa EVO, giving players another modern hot hatch to enjoy.

Kyalami Joins the Track Lineup

Alongside the new cars, Release 0.8 expands the game’s circuit selection with the addition of the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

Located near Johannesburg in South Africa, Kyalami has become one of the most recognizable venues in modern GT racing while also carrying decades of Formula One history. The modern FIA Grade 2 layout features fast sweeping corners, technical direction changes and notable elevation differences that place a premium on driver confidence and consistency.

Its high-altitude location also introduces an additional challenge, as the thinner air subtly influences both engine performance and aerodynamic efficiency, creating a driving experience that feels noticeably different from many of the existing circuits in Assetto Corsa EVO.

User-Generated Content Continues to Grow

Following the introduction of the car editor in Update 0.7, KUNOS continues expanding Assetto Corsa EVO’s support for community-created content.

Release 0.8 adds support for external liveries, allowing creators to produce custom paint schemes without modifying original game files. While this may seem like a relatively small addition, liveries have always played an important role within the Assetto Corsa community and represent another important milestone in the game’s evolving modding ecosystem.

Even more significant is the arrival of multiplayer support for community-made cars. Servers can now host modded vehicles while a built-in SHA verification system ensures every participant is using the correct version of the content before joining a session. This helps maintain competitive fairness while opening multiplayer racing to custom vehicle projects.

League organizers also receive new entry list functionality, providing greater control over starting grids during organized events.

Virtual Reality Receives Its Biggest Upgrade Yet

Arguably the headline feature of Update 0.8 is the extensive overhaul of Assetto Corsa EVO’s virtual reality implementation.

KUNOS has introduced foveated rendering, including eye-tracked support on compatible VR headsets. By concentrating rendering quality where the player is looking, the technology improves performance without significantly reducing visual quality.

The update also introduces dedicated VR graphics settings, supersampling, adjustable pixel density, world scale controls and several rendering optimizations aimed at reducing latency and improving overall image clarity. Additional backend improvements allow the renderer to work more efficiently with OpenXR while reducing unnecessary rendering passes.

Collectively, these improvements should provide a smoother and more polished VR experience for players using supported hardware.

Rendering, Performance and Gameplay Improvements

Away from the major new features, Update 0.8 also delivers a broad collection of technical improvements across the simulator.

Rendering has been enhanced through new dynamic VRAM management, allowing Assetto Corsa EVO to better allocate graphics memory depending on the available hardware. Additional optimizations target textures, mesh streaming, particles, shadows and cloud rendering, while visual improvements include enhanced windshield effects, updated rain splashes and reduced object flickering.

The update also addresses numerous gameplay and multiplayer issues. Several crashes have been resolved, server stability has been improved and various fixes have been applied to Hotstint mode, pit stop calculations, session transitions and vehicle-specific systems. Physics adjustments include removing rev limiter choking, restoring launch control functionality for the Ferrari Daytona SP3 and updating dynamic track calculations.

Final Thoughts

Assetto Corsa EVO Update 0.8 continues strengthening the simulator’s long-term foundations. The arrival of Kyalami and three new vehicles provides players with fresh content to explore, but the biggest gains come from the extensive VR improvements, expanded multiplayer modding support and continued rendering optimizations.

While Assetto Corsa EVO remains in Early Access, updates like Version 0.8 show KUNOS Simulazioni’s commitment to steadily expanding both the content and technology behind the simulator. For VR users, league racers and the modding community in particular, this is a significant update.
