BeamNG.drive 0.39 Update: New Graphics, Car, Physics and More

BeamNG.drive version 0.39 has officially arrived, and this is one of the largest updates the game has received so far. Released on July 29, 2026, it brings a major graphics overhaul, a redesigned interface, a new vehicle, expanded aerodynamics, rally improvements, new gameplay systems, and a long list of smaller changes.

The size of the update matters because BeamNG has often grown through several focused improvements at a time. Version 0.39 feels broader. It changes how the game looks, how the menus work, how vehicles interact with the air around them, and how players approach several parts of Freeroam and Career Mode.

The Graphics Overhaul Is the Main Event

The most immediate difference is the new graphics system. BeamNG has overhauled its shadows, lighting, skies, clouds, reflections, foliage, and environmental setup across the game. Shadows should remain more stable while driving or moving the camera, while improved ambient occlusion and exposure help scenes look more natural.

Volumetric clouds and a physically based night sky are also included. The sky now uses astronomical data for elements such as the Milky Way and constellations, while the daytime system provides more natural lighting as the time of day changes. HDR output is supported through Vulkan and Direct3D 12 for players using compatible displays.

Vehicle lighting has received a serious upgrade too. Headlights and fog lights now project patterns based on their technology and market, while brightness, range, and color are tied to the type and wattage of the bulb. It should make night driving far more convincing, especially alongside the new lighting added to West Coast, USA.

These improvements may come with a performance cost depending on the hardware and settings being used. BeamNG has rebuilt its graphics presets and says each default preset now targets a better balance between appearance and performance. Players may need to revisit their settings, even if the game previously ran comfortably.

Meet the New Cherrier Ardente

Version 0.39 introduces the Cherrier Ardente, a new two-door coupe built on the existing FCV platform. It has a modern exterior, a driver-focused interior, and 19 factory and custom configurations covering street, racing, track-day, and rally use.

The powertrain selection is unusually broad. Gasoline and diesel versions are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while electric variants can be configured with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Wide-body parts, several bumper designs, liveries, contrasting roof options, and multiple spoilers give players plenty of room to customize it.

The Ardente should fit naturally into a lot of the driving BeamNG does well. It can be used as a normal road car, modified into a tuner build, prepared for circuit driving, or thrown into a rally stage. It also gives the update a recognizable centerpiece without making the rest of version 0.39 feel secondary.

Aerodynamics Now Connect Vehicles Together

One of the most important changes is the expanded aerodynamic simulation. Vehicles previously calculated their aerodynamic behavior individually, but nearby moving vehicles can now affect the airflow around each other.

This introduces slipstreaming, side drafting, and bump drafting. Racing behind another car can reduce drag, while driving alongside it can alter the forces acting on both vehicles. The system also applies to compatible props and other physics objects, creating new possibilities beyond normal racing.

For sim racers, this could be one of the most meaningful additions in the update. Drafting should now play a larger role in oval racing, high-speed road courses, and fuel-saving experiments. It also gives BeamNG another physics system that can create unexpected situations without relying on scripted behavior.

The Interface Has Been Rebuilt

The user interface has received a major overhaul, particularly through the new pause menu. Vehicle management, replay controls, HUD editing, settings, and several other tools are now organized around a more modern system.

Gamepad navigation was a major focus. The previous menus could be awkward or nearly impossible to use without a mouse, so version 0.39 improves controller navigation across the interface. This work also makes sense with the PlayStation 5 version still planned for later in 2026.

Photo Mode has also been rebuilt. It now includes more camera, scene, effect, overlay, and capture controls, along with presets, an in-game gallery, supersampling, downscaling, autofocus, motion blur capture, and a configurable camera flash. BeamNG has always been great for screenshots, and the new tools make that side of the game considerably more serious.

More Gameplay, Rally, and Force Feedback Improvements

Freeroam now includes working taxis, including the ability to call one and select a destination. A new tutorial introduces basic driving, cameras, recovery, vehicle spawning, walking mode, customization, weather, missions, and traffic, which should make the game less confusing for new players.

The new Freeform Delivery system creates more involved jobs where players can leave their vehicle, use equipment, manually connect trailers, and complete multi-step objectives. Several existing delivery missions have been converted to this format, while new missions expand the heavy-equipment and transportation side of the game.

Rally Mode receives professional pacenotes recorded by 2024 British Rally Champion co-driver Alex Kihurani, a new Utah rally loop, liaison traffic, expanded calls, co-driver selection, and clearer visual pacenotes. These changes should make rally stages feel more structured and much closer to a complete discipline.

Wheel users also get experimental adaptive steering damping. The system estimates wheel inertia and stiffness in real time to reduce oscillation, although its effectiveness depends on frame rate. There are also smaller force feedback latency, initialization, and reliability improvements.

Final Thoughts

BeamNG.drive 0.39 is a substantial update. The graphics overhaul will be the first thing most players notice, but the new aerodynamic interactions, redesigned interface, Cherrier Ardente, rally additions, and expanded gameplay give the update far more depth than a visual refresh alone.

Some players will probably need to adjust their graphics settings, and several systems will continue to evolve after release. Even so, version 0.39 pushes BeamNG forward in nearly every major area at once. For a game already known for its physics and open-ended experimentation, this may be one of its most important updates yet.
