Two New Rally Icons Join The Game

Headlining the update 0.4 are two iconic additions from the golden era of rallying: the Peugeot 306 Maxi Kit Car and the Subaru Impreza S3 Group A from 1993.

The Peugeot 306 Maxi represents one of the most memorable front-wheel-drive rally cars of the late 1990s. Homologated for the FIA 2-Litre World Rally Cup in 1997 and represented in-game with IKE Racing livery, the screaming naturally aspirated machine was built specifically for asphalt rally stages. Its aggressive handling characteristics and high-revving engine make it a completely different driving experience compared to traditional four-wheel-drive rally cars.

Alongside it arrives the legendary Subaru Impreza S3 Group A, the very car that helped launch Subaru’s dominance in the World Rally Championship. Driven by Colin McRae during the early years of the Impreza’s WRC career, the 1993-spec machine brings classic Group A rallying back to life with its turbocharged Boxer engine and four-wheel-drive system designed for gravel and snow performance.

Snow Arrives In Alsace And Wales

Update 0.4 also introduces snow to Rally Alsace and Rally Wales. The new snowy weather conditions dramatically alter stage behavior.

According to the developers, the snow system has also received significant visual and physical improvements, including better transitions between dry, melting and fully snow-covered surfaces. Road readability in winter conditions has also been improved to help drivers better judge grip levels during stages.

Tire Physics Receive Major Improvements

The update delivers major improvements to the game’s tire and physics systems. Wet and snow handling behavior has been extensively reworked to create more immediate transitions between grip and loss of traction.

Gravel tires are now capable of generating realistic grip levels on snowy gravel roads, while additional tire deformation simulation has been introduced specifically for snow driving. Aerodynamic drag and lift behavior have also been revised alongside multiple vehicle setup updates.

One particularly interesting addition is the Peugeot 306’s adjustable brake bias system, which uses a pressure limiter valve setup that allows rear brake pressure to be reduced independently.

Fanatec FullForce And Logitech TrueForce Added

Another addition for update 0.4 is expanded peripheral support. Assetto Corsa Rally now supports both Fanatec FullForce and Logitech TrueForce technologies, allowing compatible hardware to deliver more detailed force feedback information directly through supported steering wheels.

A new in-game force feedback parameter has also been added for further tuning.

Audio Overhaul Continues

Audio also receives a substantial overhaul in Update 0.4. New engine and exhaust sounds have been implemented for both the Peugeot 306 Maxi and Subaru Impreza S3, while several improvements have been made to replay spatialization, turbo sounds, gravel skid effects and environmental reverberation.

The developers even noted that the Impreza’s audio work will continue evolving further in future updates as the sound designer personally owns an Impreza and wants the car to sound as authentic as possible.

Community Feedback Remains Mixed

As with most Early Access updates, community feedback has continued pouring in since release of update 0.4. One of the biggest requests remains VR support, with many players repeatedly asking “VR when?” and simply commenting “VR?” underneath update posts and trailers.

Others are hoping for additional creative tools, with requests for a dedicated photo mode also appearing frequently.

Not all reactions have been entirely positive. Some players continue to criticize the game’s handling model despite the latest physics revisions.

Massive List Of Additional Fixes

Beyond the headline additions, the update includes a lengthy list of fixes and refinements across nearly every area of the game.

Pacenotes for several Monte Carlo stages have been updated, tire allocation systems during rally weekends have been fixed, leaderboard functionality has been improved and numerous visual bugs across stages and environments have been addressed.

Players can also expect upgraded rally environments, improved snow particle effects, enhanced ambient occlusion and additional environmental detailing across multiple stages in Monte Carlo, Alsace and Wales.
